How to Prevent Summer Breakouts

Why is acne worse in the summertime?

Most of the time, it can be related to increased oil production, sweating and more pores being clogged. This can all be linked to warmer temperatures during this season. Additionally, mixing too many clogging skincare products with your own sweat and sebum can also lead to more breakouts. Triglycerides in your pores feed on bacteria, causing inflammatory forms of acne.

How can I prevent these breakouts in the summer?

Products including salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide can be helpful for comedonal acne like blackheads and whiteheads. Overall, it's helpful to switch to a foaming cleanser during the summer months, as it's not too heavy of a formula on the skin. Avoid heavy lotions or creams as well as to not clog pores. Last but not least, it's important to wash off that dirt and sweat! Cleanse your face a maximum of 2x a day to make sure pores are clear.
